Raga Darbari Kannada exemplifies the totality and grandeur of Indian Classical Music. Statly and transcendent in character, this raga is associated with the courts of the Mugal emperors. It is normaly palyed at midnight, and tis espression is that of rrgal wisdom, leonine stature and deep fullfilment touched with the inveitable sadness in our transitory lives. It is said that Darbari Kannada is the King of Ragas, and in a sence it is as it pertains to the noblest part of the human being.

Ragas Pyriya, Bageshree, and Bhairavi elucidate perfectly the title of this CD – “Fragile Moments”. Played at three different parts of the day, all three of these ragas express the fragility of the human heart in their own particular ways, along with feelings of loss and heartbreak, romance and joy, courage and srtength. All are played on this recording in the first movements of the Dhrupad style of performance – the alap and Jor – without rhythmic accompaniment to the Sitar.
